At the end of my WIP, a utopian society is founded, and all their laws are based on the phrase, “Do no harm.” Yes, I know this is lifted from the Hippocratic Oath (primum non nocere), what I wonder is if I need to add a citation?

I'm no expert, and I would say no, but again...

However, many of us who do headstone cleaning and repair work use the motto "Do no harm" when it comes to the methods of restoring headstones and other cemetery monuments, and there's never been any kind of backlash for doing so.

Another non-expert, but I see no need to cite it.

It'd be out of copyright anyway, right? :tongue

I don't think it comes only and specifically from the Hippocratic oath, but whatever the original source is -- the copyright is long expired.

Who do you think would challenge its use? I wouldn't give it a second thought.

But what if Hippocrates' (a Bill & Ted voiceover insists on calling him Hippo Crates) offspring, and theirs, and theirs, renewed copyright for thousands of years?

Nah, still not long enough. You're golden.

Thanks all - that's what I thought... but this is another case of Indy overthinking everything and being paranoid.
