Just for fun - say what your book is about using just one word.

When I'm asked about my books, I use this one word trick to lure them toward wanting to know more.
My list of books and the word I use for each follows:

The Dark Side of Joy: Perseverance.
The Last Dragon: Sacrifice.

Departure: Resolve.
Desperation: Integrity.
Damnation: Intolerance.
Deviation: Absolution.
Destination: Transformation.

I use the one word intro when people ask about my books - either one novel in particular or just in general. If asked, a long discourse is IMO really not a good way to start the conversation.

For example, if I were asked about my novel The Last Dragon, I would say: It's about personal sacrifice; how much would any of us give up to save those we care for? That usually leads to more questions / comments, which was what I hoped for.

If I were asked about my Extinction series, I would say: It's a 5 novel SciFi series that explores the future evolution of our species; are we bound for extinction or are we at the edge of something beyond imagining?

The one word game is a useful marketing tool - AND it helps me focus on the theme of the story while I'm writing.

And it's kinda fun.

Note: some of the titles below are working titles

Caveman: scientificethics*

Elm's Raven: belonging

Mars story: sentience

Haldorra and the Wormhole: spacetime shenanigans**

*okay I cheated but scientific ethics is a single concept that can't be expressed by one word alone, at least not one I can think of but maybe I'm being too literal

**I give up I'm not very good at this game...
