Hello.

So, I have this problem with my DVD burner. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop from 2015 with Windows 10 installed on it. The problem is that when I put a disc in, whether it's a CD or DVD, the little green light flashes for a few seconds. Then the light stays on and the computer does nothing with the disc. It doesn't open, nothing. Have you guys ever seen or had a problem like this? Can this be fixed somehow, or will I have to get a new external DVD drive?

I run Windows 7, so I won't be able to help much.

Might check if the computer still recognizes the DVD burner....

Start, Control Panel, Device Manager.....

OR

Start, search "Control" then click on Device Manager

Click the arrow to the left of "DVD/CD-ROM drives"

Is the DVD burner showing up?

===================

If it is not recognized, try this info to add new hardware....

Good luck.

It could be dust. Either blow some air inside or use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the lens.

Last thing I would try is calling Toshiba helpdesk / support (search Google). They can run you through diagnostics and troubleshooting.

I did call an hour ago and explained the situation to them. They said there was nothing they could do because it's a hardware issue and that what I need to do is buy a new internal DVD burner or an external one, that mine has no fix. I'm going to mark this thread as solved, and thank you for all the help. I hesitated in calling Toshiba because I thought they'd charge me for tech support because my computer will be 5 years old in January.

You are welcome. I'm glad you were able to get better direction from Toshiba. At least you know what the issue is and how to address it. Cheers.
