Over in the visual arts world, Inktober is a challenge begun by Jake Parker in 2009, where people are encouraged to make and post an ink drawing each day of October.

Over the years it's mutated a bit. While most of it is ink drawing, a lot of it is digital art and people spread into other drawing media as well.

Originally the subjects were whatever people felt like. In 2016 Inktober started publishing an official prompt list, 31 words for 31 days. Then other people started posting their own personal prompt lists and now there are many variations.

This year I participated for the first time. My eye was caught by a prompt list published by artist Dory Whynot, who I discovered thanks to Neil Gaiman's Twitter account (She paints gorgeous, moody watercolors!). Going with her list, I started "Whynoctober" on October 1st.

As you might imagine the schedule got tight and ideas went weird sometimes. Visual art isn't exactly like writing, but it takes a similar sort of focus and time devotion. And sometimes you just go with whatever because you need to finish and your imagination has gone off into another dimension.

I dragged a bit just at the end, owing to Halloween commitments, but by November 2nd I had all 31 drawings up!

They're not ALL ink drawings. Some are colored pencil and one uses graphite.

I'm a wee bit new to social media, so I didn't realize to make a whole Twitter thread of the art until about halfway through, but here are some links to what I did.

Or you can just go to my Instagram and it's about the first thirteen rows (there are a few sketchbook pages and ttrpg miniatures tossed in there, which is why it's more than 31 images):

I think I might want to make a compilation image of what I drew, or at least favorites. It seems to be the done thing.
