Without looking at the video, but checking online, Mercury on average is the closest planet. Venus and Mars can be closer at times, but when they are on the opposite side of the Sun, they are pretty far away!
Interesting. I love the way something which appears obvious, Mars is the closest, is challenged, then it turns out the challenge was challenged and Mercury is statistically closer than Venus.
That's pretty cool and it makes sense if you think in terms of average distance instead of at the planet''s closest point to another. Mercury makes such a small circle and is so close to the sun that it's never all that far away compared to even Venus when it is at the opposite side of its orbit from us.
Looking at the model, it made me wonder how people missed the fact that the distance over time is a cycloid, not a sinusoid. Anything closest to the barycenter is going to be closer to everything else than anything else.
