This is going to sound like such a dumb question. But the background is, it's recorded audio so it's a hassle to change.

Is this sentence correct? It sounds funny.

"She had begun being schooled in magic."

It is a tad clunky to read but maybe it sounds okay in audio.

Is it dialogue?

Without knowing the context, it's well nigh impossible to suggest alternatives but could it be rephrased perhaps to give a clue as to how long she's attended the school- if indeed there is a school.

"She had begun being schooled in magic."

Not commenting on whether it’s a good sentence, since that is hard to judge without context — only on whether it’s grammatical: I think it is, though the following rings slightly more natural to me:

“She had begun to be schooled in magic.”

or

“She was being schooled in magic.”

Here's my suggestion:

She had just started getting educated in magic.

If it's difficult to change in an audio, don't. As Lakey says, it's grammatical enough, so leave it alone. :greenie

Is it published audio or are you proofing it before it's made available? If it's not published, then it's just a note to the narrator or publisher. If it's after it's been published... it's one line, and yeah, a pain to change. :) I wouldn't lose sleep over one line.
