July 2, 2019 - I finished writing the storyline of my book with a word count of roughly 231,450 words. I consider it the 2nd draft since I revised each chapter after I wrote it.
Oct 2, 2019 (TODAY!) - I finished self-editing the entire ms. for a 3rd draft landing at 200,054 word count. I cut just over 31K words.
Next steps:
- I will do a read-through of the book for any final finetuning.
- I will send the book out to my five beta readers - They're expecting it this weekend. I'm giving them the month of October to read it and provide feedback
- I will step away from the book and spend the month of October doing the following:
1. research the publishing industry
2. conduct background work on targeted agents
3. organize my notes, brainstorm, and create a rough outline for book 2. - I already started writing the first two pages of book 2 (I got burned out with the editing process one night).
4. discuss scope and $'s with a couple targeted editors and ask for references from each.
5. …
Wish me luck!
