Hi,

I was wondering whether someone could let me know some typical phrases an adult would say to soothe a crying toddler. He is crying because his mother has been taken away.
Thanks!

I'm not a native speaker, but "tranquilo" (/a) is something I've heard adults say to other adults. It might go for a kid, too.

there are a lot of regional differences depending on where this character is from.

Some of us call young children "papi or mami" which is becoming now more popular but used to be regional, for example "no llores papito" or nene, nena, mijo/mija (my son, my daughter). If a young kid hurt himself you might say "No pasa nada papi"

Sometimes parents sing nonsense songs like "ru ru ru" or "arroró mi niño" Some common lullabies "duérmese mi niño" and in some areas "duerme, negrito" which is a bit weird translated.

ja, no llores, papito/mamita (o muñeco/muñeca)

they might sing a little song for distraction like que linda manita (every latinx family I know used this one, with different melodies depending on where they're from)

this was one we would sing over and over for my littlest one, ay mi palomita
