Hi everyone!

I've recently started writing again after a few years' break, but I don't really know any other writers, so I'm hoping joining here can help balance that out a bit. I've never really been on a forum before, but I'm sure I'll figure it out :)

A little about me, I guess:

I write mainly fantasy, but with a scientific bent--I studied computer science and linguistics, and that definitely colors my approach to writing. So does the fact that I'm very gay, and equally Jewish. I used to write a little when I was a kid, but I stopped for a while. Now that I have free time post-college, I'm picking it back up again.

As for reading, fantasy and sci-fi are my go-to genres, but I'll read anything with a good recommendation. If you put a knife to my throat and told me to pick a favorite author, it would probably be Terry Pratchett.

I've never done any real beta reading, but I'm definitely open to learning.

My biggest hobby would have to be video games. I also knit, as much as I can with two cats, and once in a while I'll even pick up a sewing needle. One time my friend and I ate half a jar of horseradish together because we dared each other to.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, it's much appreciated! I'm very happy to be here.

Hey starlight. Welcome! from a fellow gamer, what games are you into?

Mainly RPGs and action games! I'm currently working on the final pieces of Hollow Knight. What about you?

(hope I got the quote thing right!)

I had to look that up; I had never heard of it, but I see it has an overwhelmingly positive review score on steam. I must watch a youtube video on it.
I been playing dark souls recently, but I tend to enjoy open world games like Assassins creed, GTA, saints row, etc.

Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games of all time! And anyone who loves Terry Pratchett so much can't be half-bad.

Starlite--I am salivating that you are a linguistics nerd. :)

I've used jargon in my future colonized world that is greek-derived instead of latin-derived (distavoc, okeafolk, etc) and wondering how much world building I might need to do to explain these sorts of oddities. Maybe we can chat sometime.

Welcome!

I'm happy to be able to introduce you to Hollow Knight! If you're enjoying Dark Souls, you should definitely give it a look. It's got shades of Dark Souls, mixed in with a healthy dollop of Metroidvania, which comes out to an absolutely stellar final product.

Happy to make your acquaintance as well! And you have very good taste, if I do say so myself.

I'd love to! You'd be surprised (or, uh, not) how hard it is to put linguistics studies to use, so I'm fit to burst looking for something to engage that part of my mind. Feel free to hit me up (PM me? like I said I'm new to forums) whenever with the details!
