So I hope this is the right place for this for I am not exactly talking about analog tools for I am talking about software and old school technology that counts as some kind of computing.

So I did I quick search and I haven't found a thread that is talking about people's picks for writing software and/or devices like the Alphasmart and eMate 300 for the task of writing. So I figured I would start one!

As far as software goes, I use a combination of The Novel Factory (https://www.novel-software.com/), OmmWriter (https://ommwriter.com/), Write! (https://writeapp.co/), World Anvil for it is PERFECT for World Building (https://www.worldanvil.com/) and I use to use this site all the time until I got a program that mimics it, The Internet Typewriter (https://writer.bighugelabs.com/welcome). I am trying to learn Scrivener as we speak and I don't really use Microsoft Word for I have done wayyyyy too many reports and essays for it also be a tool for creative writing.

For devices, I use a combination of my Alphasmart Neo and now (which I just today and I am soooo sooo excited to have in my collection and I might have already hugged it) my eMate 300. Which by the way, the eMate is so beautifully retro that I can die of happiness for having something so ahead of its time.

I just use a notepad file, divide up into different sections using dashes to make a line. For my current WIP, I have a notepad file with my outline, a section to start scenes and refine them before adding them to the Word file, a list of characters I have or plan to add with physical, biographical, and other characteristics, and the biggest section is big list of details to remember or implement. Probably not the best, method, but it's free.

The softest of the software is still my fountain pen and a pile of scrap "printout". Most of the writing I do is with YWrite. Pay the few extra dollars on any shareware software too.

Yes. Please. Developers work really hard. If you like their software, pay for it, and tell them you like it.

Anybody use Google Keep? It looks like it's similar to Evernote.

I use it, mostly for jotting down story ideas that I can come back to later when I've finished my current WIP, as well as random everyday life stuff like which buses to take, shopping and to do lists etc. Useful for having on my phone, tablet and PC and syncs well.

For writing itself, I started out in Word then moved to MS OneNote for easier scene moving ability and organising my research and character/location notes etc. But I lost some work when it didn't sync properly so started looking for alternatives. Very happy with Scrivener now.

A bit of a shameless plug, but I'd appreciate feedback into what I'm building: currently working on a website that tries to integrate some web features into writing. The current website is still very simple, allowing to post and upvote texts (https://chaptory.com/). I plan on creating a way to let writers integrate features to make the text more immersive, such as changing background or font color depending on where in the text the user is, or requiring a password to continue. Since you here all use writing tools, I wanted to ask: do you see yourselves using something like I mentioned? There are other plans for the website, like allowing writers to receive tips or subscribtion from readers, but I wanted to ask here if there is interest in having a website like this.

Alphasmart Neo? An incredible device! How are you moving text from it to your other computers?

USB connection; it essentially re-types the entered text into a Word or similar document.
