Hi there! I'm a college student and have dabbled in writing for a bit, but I've decided to try and get more serious and learn the ins and outs of it. I would really like to publish a novel one day, as incredibly distant as that possibility seems right now, and I'm really looking forward to learning and getting better. I write, draw, code and animate, though none of it particularly well I don't think. I've never joined or posted on a forum of any kind so this is all kind of new for me.

Nice to meet you all!

Hello, Me. Welcome. :) This is a great place. I've gotten great feedback and advice and have been able to give mediocre feedback and advice. Have fun looking around.

Pretty soon one of our mods, regdog, is going to post a reply FULL of links to FAQs and newbie guides. Since this is your first forum, don't forget to read those! They'll be really handy and you'll know your way around so much better. (Sorry if my tone was weird. I'm a teacher and it's hard to get out of teacher voice.)

Tell us more about you. What genre(s) do you write? What are you studying in college, if you want to share? Do you have an idea for your novel or are you just hoping to get there someday?

I'll be sure to read those FAQ's! I'm double majoring Creative Writing and Computer Science at the moment, and I'm trying to get better at art and animation on the side. I tend to write things that straddle the line between fantasy and sci-fi, just anything with strange elements in it I like. I have a ton off novel ideas along those lines, but I've only written short stories so far and the jump to novel format has me feeling a little daunted. Just something I gotta sit down and grind out though!

Welcome to AW! :) :welcome:
Short stories are great for practising prose and learning to self-edit (especially if you have to meet a certain word-count) but plotting something the length of a novel can be intimidating. Some people have a start and then fly by the seat of their pants, and others extensively plot every single detail before they begin, but most fall somewhere along that spectrum. There is no right and wrong with that, just whatever feels like it works for you.

Welcome Petuh112, from another newby. I haven't posted any of my work yet but have already picked up some very helpful advice and seen plenty of really good feedback in the crits from the more experienced and accomplished members.

I think this is a great place.

Looking forward to reading your work.

Cool. I got interested in writing while in college myself. This is a good place to start as both a writer and forum user. Have a good time.

Welcome! What sorts of ideas do you have for a novel? Once you get that down, you can work backward from there, figuring out what needs to happen when and to whom (that's the fun part).
