Hello hello!

I joined AW a little over a year ago, and this will be my first post. I have not read a whole lot on this site, yet, but I am really curious what I can learn from everybody here, and maybe impart something of my own.
I enjoy reading fantasy mostly, though I have been known to broaden out and read anything well written. I lately have tried to read some Stephen King, though it really isn't my favorite. The genre that I am leaning towards writing is fantasy, or Urban-Fantasy.
I have two stories that have been bouncing around my head for the last year or less, and I am horrible at writing outlines.

I am currently finishing my BS in Computer Networking, I work for an HR agency that supports the military community, and I am living in Germany. I really love Germany, and Europe in general.

Enough about me for the moment, as that was a whole lot of "I I I" just now. I really look forward to becoming an active member of this community and speaking with everyone.

Buh-bye for now.

Welcome! Creating the idea for your story is just the beginning, so you have the hard part (and the accomplishment of finishing a book) to look forward to!

Welcome to AW! :welcome:
If you don't have an outline or struggle with that, just think up a start and ending then get writing and see where it leads. You'll learn more about how you write by doing than any amount of planning. Good luck starting it off!

Guten Tag, Trande. I spent two years in Göppingen, Germany (a US flugplatz), from where I sent my first short story to the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. It was rejected but kindly so.

We spent almost every day off exploring Germany and bordering countries. :greenie

Hello.

I too am new to here. I love writing fantasy with a sci-fi twist. I come bearing a warning however. I am a brutal critique. I critique writing like Gordon Ramsey critiques food. During the process, you may call me an a**, you may disapprove of my methods, however, I am only helping shape you into the best writer you can be. I do this because I am a perfectionist when it comes to my own writing so my work is never done. I hope the same for my own posts once I get them on here. I hope, as well, that by the end of it all we will be a good couple of friends.

Welcome from another newby. Europe is great but looking decidedly fragile at the moment. (I'm a Brit living in France)...

I haven't read much Fantasy and aim to rectify that promptly.

Looking forward to reading your work.

I look forward to stomaching your critiques to the best of my ability! I have not had any formal classes or training, so any and all help will be welcome.
I appreciate the forewarning, and look forward to our chats.

That seems to be my process as of right now. I tend to write by "the seat of my pants" as many guides call it. I have a very basic outline. When I try to outline, or think about my stories in opportune moments, I don't get very far. When I write, the feeling and process just seems to come to me. So we shall see. I hope that my ability to put out a good outline will improve, and it will help minimize how many times I have to re-write certain areas.

Thanks for the quick tip.

I'm the same, Trande. If I over-plan it loses all the sense of adventure and fun in the writing of the story. I've come to a happy medium of having a loose structure to keep me on track (and avoid head-scratching blocks and massive re-writes) and enough freedom to let the writing flow. Hopefully you will find your own equilibrium.
