I hope I'm posting this in the right section. I need some help figuring out a contract/royalty statement. If the contract is worded "The Publisher agrees to pay the Author an advance against and on account of all monies accruing under this agreement of $1000." Does this mean you have to make $1000 worth of royalties before receiving any "new" money received from royalties?

My understanding is that yes, that's exactly what it means. They are advancing the writer $1000 against royalties. Once your book has sold so many copies that you've earned out that $1000, you'll get royalties on the sales beyond that.

Thank you. I knew this option was common practice, but I wasn't entirely sure if that's what the contract was saying.
