This is one for my birding friends here on AW. Also for anyone who loves a good yarn.
The night parrot is one of Australia's rarest birds. In 2013, 'legendary bushman' John Young photographed one in western Queensland, and Bush Heritage (a not for profit conservation org) took over the property on which it had been recorded. More birds were located in Western Australia by other birdos. These records are all legit.
And then things went a bit weird.

Not noted in that piece: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue-fronted_fig_parrot
ETA: ABC has put up the podcast. I don't think it's geoblocked. The transcript will be available next Tuesday.
