We've been online and helping writers for twenty years. We've seen a lot of changes. Our hope is to be here twenty more.

I don't love doing fundraising, I'll admit. But we spend a minimum of 12 bucks a day, just to keep the lights on.

I would LOVE to be able to drop Google Ads entirely. And if we can raise about a thousand bucks to cover the next three months, we're going to.

Thanks for being here, everyone.

I'll have some cash on Wednesday and will chip in what I can then.

I encourage anyone who can afford to, to also subscribe with a monthly donation via PayPal. Unless you are super poor (and I have been there!) it's really pretty painless. How awful to imagine this place going dark!

Even a couple bucks a month makes a difference. You don't have to be wealthy.

Think about it this way:

Starbucks Tall (their smallest size) brewed coffee $1.85

McDonalds Premium Roast Coffee Small $1.00

McDonald’s Cheeseburger $1.00

Snickers Bar 1.86 oz $1.25

Six pack of Coca-Cola $2.69

Typical Trade Mass Market Paperback (List) $7.99

Typical Trade Kindle Novel (List) $7.99

Daily newspaper at a news stand $2.00

How much is AW worth to you? How much help and support and information do you find on AW?

Wow--this was so easy to do! I missed the part on PayPal where I put in my screen name, but that's no biggie. My PM mailbox is empty and doesn't need enlargement.

I thought the price of a book was the right amount to start at since I've gotten much more good advice and help here than I got in the last writing book I purchased.

Not where you last saw me.
Can't put a price tag on what I've learned here or on the friends I've made, so I'ma see if I can squeeze a little more juice into my monthly contribution.

These look like they're all subscription options. Is there an option for one-time payments? Some of us have a deathly aversion to internet subscriptions.

Click the "AW Subscription" button at the top of the page; you'll see a box to check for monthly subscriptions. Don't check it if you don't want it to be monthly. You also have both options on PayPal, if that's the route you're going.

It's not reoccurring. The note at the bottom of the PayPal form notes that asterisked * amounts are reoccurring.

None of them are asterisked.

You will get an automatic email reminding you that the subscription is ending; you won't be billed.

There's also the check-box, if you WANT it to be reoccurring.

There's an FAQ: AW Voluntary Subscription.

If you want to just send a specific one time amount, you can use this special link: https://www.paypal.me/AbsoluteWrite

And let me echo, in my big outdoors voice, that even if your circumstances mean you can only send a quite small amount and just once, that's absolutely worth the doing. Don't think for a minute it's not going to make a difference.

As I write this, there are 52 registered members logged in. (And 870 guests. Hm. They can't all be robots and spiders, can they?) What if each of them gave three bucks? We'd be almost a sixth of the way to the goal, just with small contributions from Sunday afternoon users on this one day.

Also, y'all might think about making a banner about this? For tops of forums pages? Because I am not sure if everyone who needs to will see this. Fingers crossed here!

I've not been here long, but am finding AW invaluable so far, so have bunged a few ££ your way. Hope to contribute more as and when I can.

Waiting to hear back from Mac about a couple of things, including that.

Hmm... I didn't see that, or if I did, I input something else other than my screen name. Oh well. I'll just email Mac if I remember.

It would be very unlikely with the current configuration for "Guests" to be anything but living humans.

I just wanted to say thank you, firstly. The AW community means a great deal to me, and voluntary subscriptions mean we don't have to look at paid models, which would exclude some people who are intrinsically important to this community, and for whom AW has been important.

We got another letter from AdSense this morning, objecting to a thread where BDSM was mentioned in the conversation. Not a graphic or explicit description or conversation, mind you...just a bit of slightly risque silliness.

With that, we've decided to make the leap of faith, and pull the Google AdSense ads.

I'm no longer inclined to jump through their hoops regarding acceptable content and conversation. We'd never allow that from any of our other advertisers.

We're nearly a quarter of the way to our goal, and we still have a few days to go. Thank you, again.

I gave a few days ago and after seeing this I'm doubly glad I did. Now I'm sorry I didn't offend AdSense's delicate sensibilities by having one of my robot porn discussions that I have elseweb, here.

AdSense ads

I haven't seen any google ads on this site, which made me realise I had my adblocker on. Red face. Have now disabled it for this site.
