Her dad laughed. “No one’s after Drowse. He’ll be fine. Why don’t you do something to take your mind off him? We could go to the library or maybe they’ll let you use the chemistry lab at the college again?”
She was officially crazy. She was taking a hot football anchor to her family reunion. And she wasn’t even dating him.
But she found herself wishing it wasn’t fake.
“The dead agents knew they’d be risking their lives when they joined the Bureau, but you didn’t choose to be a part of this mess. It’s part of my job not to let you become this maniac’s victim.”
(Decided to add sone depth to a side character by giving her this line.)
Harriet hugged Lint. “It’ll be okay. We’ll get you tested right now. Thompson, go home and make sure Crover and Beam didn’t set the house on fire. The rest of us are going to get Lint tested. ”
He clamped his mouth shut and looked ready to dart back into the airplane, but Komal Buddhi put a hand on his shoulder - he had a firm grip for such an old man, and Bapu Bari had no choice but to remain and face the three men.
A voice laughed high like a hyena in his head, screaming “Honor! Honor!” over and over like a priceless joke, even after the darkness came down over his eyes.
“I was...at the airport.” Mackie hung her head. “I just needed--” She paused. What was that word her parents’ new therapist was always saying when talking about their grieving? Closets? No. That wasn't right. Closure? Yeah. That was it. She took a deep breath. “--I just needed closure.”
