I'm having a hard time giving the cover more of a thriller vibe. EXAMPLE:

If anyone has any suggestions for lighting tweaks or overlays that might do the trick, I'm open to suggestions.

What do you all think of these? Does they seem more thrillerish? Better? Too busy?

I think crossing out the love story is a bit over the top. It's not as though the cover communicates a Romance vibe.

My problem is that I think you like this particular image so much, you're missing out on genre. I could be wrong--I've read far fewer thrillers than fantasy. But I do pick them up from time to time. I'd avoid this one because of the sexual content, but I avoid Connelly and De Mille, too. Still, your cover doesn't remind me of theirs.

Granted, this doesn't look like a Michael Connelly or Nelson DeMille cover, but both of those authors are in the category where the largest object on their covers is the author's name. West of Sin is going to be self-published, so I want the cover to grab the book buyer's attention without veering too far from convention.

The final choice was between this and a more thriller-oriented image, but the consensus was that this image is better. So now I'm trying to figure out how to eke more of a thriller vibe out of it.

Okay, I think I've managed to give the image more of a thriller vibe. What do you all think about this version?

I like this one. I also like the lettering that looked a bit battered. It seemed more 'seedier' if you know what I mean. Having her face partially hidden does give it a look of suspense. Liking this the best overall.
