And finally getting back to this as I start The Tiger's Daughter, Book 1 of the Ascendant series, by K. Arsenault Rivera. In a fantasy world, two girls - an heir to the imperial throne and the daughter of a queen among the horse lords of the plains - are marked at birth with twin pine needles, a sign that their fates are destined to become entwined. Just a few chapters in, as I only started reading last night, but so far it's a very rich world with interesting characters and chemistry that can be felt almost immediately. inspired by Asian cultures. I'm getting the sense that this is going to be an epic, a love story, and possibly/probably a tragedy all in one.
