Hello. I'm seeking a beta reader for my 1920s historical. It takes place in the 1920s and is about a woman reporter who is trying to reveal the corruption of Prohibition.
I'm not really looking for line-by-line edits. I'm looking more for things on plot, pacing, and tension. This is actually a Revise-and-Resubmit for an agent. I want to try to re-submit it to the agent before February.
I'm also looking for someone who has experience with beta-reading.
Here is a blurb about my story:
Rosemary Callaghan prides herself on being the leading columnist reviewing Boston’s swankiest jazz clubs. She always knows when the cops will raid and which joints have the best booze, thanks to her bootlegger boyfriend, Aiden. After the mob guns down a man before her, though, she sees through the club’s glittering facades. Fearing for Aiden’s safety, she begs him to sever his mob connections, but he needs the dough for his dad’s medical bills.
As rumors swirl about the mob selling illegal hooch to politicians, Rosemary confronts Aiden, who confesses it’s true. Furious, she sneaks into the mob’s dark underworld to uncover the free flowing corruption and composes a scathing tell-all she hopes will expose it. When she discovers a chilling link between her newspaper and the very men whose tommy guns are now pointed at Aiden, she puts her life and career on the line for one last gamble.
PM me if you're interested!
