Glad to be here

Hello all,

My name is Mathew and I've recently completed my first novel which I'm attempting to polish up. I'm hoping to be represented by an agent but have so far had little success and was advised to reach out to the writing community and find friends and support as, despite what our friends and family may think, writing is a social pursuit and best done as part of a collective. Of all the sites I researched I found abso write seemed the most welcoming though if anyone has advice on other groups I should look in to joining I would greatly appreciate it

I've always loved writing but only recently have I managed to cultivate the self control required to finish a novel (I have a hard-drive with the first ten-thousand words of about a hundred aborted stories) and the self-confidence to post it for people online as well as those I know to read. I read widely but my favourite authors (and chief influences) are Sir Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and HP Lovecraft.

I find it incredibly heartening to think that Lovecraft, not rightfully recognised in his own time, is now seeing something of a resurgence in popular culture which has felt the unknown touch of his slimy things for decades. If he could see people talking about him almost a century later I'm sure he'd... attempt to smile
