Hi, title says it all. If possible the story should take place in modern day with a modern secret society, not one focused on magic or mysticism, more like a covert govt' or hacker organization, not some ancient cult. Thanks!

thanks so much!
Ive heard of jack reacher but never read any.. Is the secret organization in this book featured in other reacher books as well?
Is the tone of the other two books kind of a comedy tone?

The perfect example I'm thinking about here is Spectre from James Bond, a book where we someone is be being recruited into specter would be prefect!

Only in this book is Reacher hired by the US Secret Services. Other books he will work alongside the US Army, FBI or DEA. Often covertly. Which is more or less in line with your notion of a "secret government-like organization".

Quirky tone. Dark humour. Characters get killed in unusual or fun ways. You'll learn a lot about poisons that would leave FBI experts perplexed. Like freshly ground nutmeg rubbed in an open wound. Or domoic acid ( link ). Or DMSO spay laced with nicotine.

The two books that come to mind are "Cuckoo's Egg" and "Falcon and the Snowman". Both books are rather old but are very good if you are interested in hacker information. Another source is "Hacker Quarterly". Here's the Wiki link if you are interested in looking this over. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2600:_The_Hacker_Quarterly One word of caution; the information can be very technical.
