This is old thinking and I'm wondering if it has been updated.
Back in the 80's when I wrote my first three novels (unpublished ) I was told to write at an 8th grade level. I'm unsure of the reasoning behind it, but this edict came from my Agent - so I followed it. Does this same rule still apply?
My recent works are close to that reading level, but my WIP uses 'anthropomorphism' and 'diaphanous' to describe certain instances and characters... should I rephrase? BTW: this is not a YA novel.
