Story in Hollywood Reporter about a new publisher of SF&F. They label it a "boutique" publisher. (What the Heck does that mean?)

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/liz-gorinsky-founds-erewhon-books-1153139

"The first releases from Erewhon Books are expected in 2020, with the publisher currently accepting submissions."

Here's their web site: https://www.erewhonbooks.com/

I just read their submission guidelines and found they are accepting unagented submissions. I expect they will soon be bombarded by queries. (Completed works only.)

What do you think this means for us as writers? Readers?

It's a very good thing, is my short answer. My agent has submitted to them and thinks highly of the operation.

The TOR article mentions that they are very well funded, which is excellent (and part of why I linked it!). A new press that pays advances (hopefully!) I would be elated if they wanted the book we've subbed. It's hard to say exactly what their taste is like without a backlog, of course.
