Hey All!

I love that "silkpunk" is a thing now.

Is there an equivalent based on an African or carribean culture?

If not, please send along any *Fantasy* novels that are inspired by-- but not necessarily heavily based in-- African culture.

Already Read:

Nnedi Okorafor
Octavia Butler
Tananarive Due

Have you read Lee Killough's The Leopard's Daughter? Set in prehistoric Africa, with tribal magic and hyenas who raise the dead and a lady MC whose father was a leopard-man.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman could perhaps be construed as influenced by West African folklore.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I recommend this with reservations. It's the author's debut, and there are opportunities for improvement. However, if you're just looking at the African cultural exploration, it would be fine.

Nalo Hopkinson. I heard an interview with her but have not read her books yet. She has short stories and novels that fit your criteria.

Thank you all! I'm familiar with Nalo Hopkinson-- I also haven't read any of her stuff. I wonder if she has african steampunk elements.

Thanks all!
