my reflection
in the computer monitor
shows that I smile
when I type
at the end of an email

so now I’m aware
of the odd habit
and have tried to stop
before my wife
discovers this strange practice

it took years to disengage my stutter
how many will it require
to not smile when I type

oh no

I realize

I’ve done it twice
in this poem
