looking for a good way to write someone who didnt interrupt someone but scolded someone for being rude.

"Scolded" doesnt feel right and neither does "hissed" or "interrupted"

"You know David," said Shawn, "Your uncle here, he's got himself a big heart, but he's a terrible cook."

"Shawn!" Paul interrupted,"Shut up, you are being rude!"

any input would be great. I know my puncuation is probably off here too.

I think the sentence makes the scolding clear enough. You can get away with a simple "said."

"Scolded" feels perfectly fine to me. I use "interjected" a lot; although, that's to indicate that they hadn't been speaking before.
Other possible words are "scoffed", "chided", "lashed", and "lambasted".
