Sat Nam! (Literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)
Just so you know: the food wasn't all horrible back in the '60s. (I was born in '53.) True, there were no foodies (the name wasn't in use) then, but there were people who did what we would now call the foodie thing. My mother was one of them. And shrimp in jello is really not so different from shrimp is aspic, which had been around a bit longer, I think. Not that that was one of the things Mom did. She usually made cakes from scratch, but for birthday parties when we were young, she'd get a lemon cake mix and make a sheet cake, then cut the thing up, rearrange the pieces and turn it into an animal with a lemon glaze and shredded coconut for fur. Actually tasted pretty good. Vegetarian food was hard to come by, and vegans were unheard of.
Blessings,
Siri Kirpal
