Hello! My name's Tom. I'm currently working on a YA SF/contemporary fantasy with a gay protagonist. I'm 15 chapters in, but not really up to date on my word count. Just trying to get pages done. Books I'm reading/have read and that I would like to consider influences are Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children Series, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz, the novels of Shaun David Hutchinson and Bill Konigsberg, Release - Patrick Ness, History is All You Left Me - Adam Silvera, plus writers like Caitlin R. Kiernan, William Gibson, Charles de Lint. Plus comics!

So I've been making progress, and I want to see what other people are working on as well.

I used to be on here a few years ago, and met a great critique partner who helped me out a great deal, but life got in the way as it sometimes does and we both had to shift our focus to our families.

So here I am, and I'm ready to re-connect with the community here.

Welcome, tom.gtm.

I haven't read any of those titles, but I'm very interested in stories with a gay protagonist. I may have to check them out!

AW is a great site--I've learned tons on here. Hope you enjoy it this time. Get to 50 posts and share some of your writing--so helpful! Maybe not critique partners, but fellow writers trying to help. :)

:welcome:

Welcome! People seem a friendly bunch here, so you'll fit right in.

I also write YA SF and fantasy, though currently taking a break to write a little bit of trashy adult romance.

I'll have a look at the books you've mentioned as inspiration for when I start writing YA again.

Thanks, Connor! Trashy adult romance sounds like a fun refresher.

Nope
The books you write sound like things I'd read.

Have you read any of the more mainstream LGBT YA books out there? Like Simon and the Homosapien Agenda?
