Somewhere in my dreams.
I'm searching for historical romance novels featuring Native American Indians, particularly involving interracial relationships (in which the woman is white, the man is Native American, or vice versa). Any novels that were well researched and show the cultural aspect would be nice. I'm mainly searching in Christian historical romance, but generally speaking, any historical romance will do. (As long as it's not one of those smut/porn paperbacks one finds in the drugstore.) There seems to be so little of this sort of fiction. I would also consider YA or more contemporary fiction, though my interest is more in the historical and cultural aspects and the tensions/difficulties surrounding such an interracial relationship. The closest novels I can find involving anything like this are "The Wood's Edge" by Lori Benton and "Cheyenne Sunrise" by Janalyn Voigt, though I haven't read either one, so I can't attest to the quality or historical accuracy of them. If anyone knows of any similar novels, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Orphan Train has a YA frame story with a young woman from one of the Maine tribes (not remembering which one) in a relationship with a (mostly) white guy. But that's not what the story's about; it's about abandoned/orphaned kids finding their way through miserable circumstances. (And the romance is not a big issue.) The main story is about 90 year old white women who was once on one of the last orphan trains.

I haven't read it, but my husband recommends News of the World, about a white girl who is kidnapped by Kiowa and identifies with them even when her family recovers her. Again, not exactly what you're asking for, but it might be of interest.

Blessings,
