On Sunday, photojournalist Andrew Collins reported that the victim of an early morning drowning at Hamilton Harbor, Ontario was Ray Emery, the former NHL goalie. 35-year-old Emery was swimming with friends at the harbor and never surfaced. The Hamilton Spectator first reported that a man in his early 30s had drowned near the docks at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club.

Inspector Marty Schulenberg of the Hamilton Police spoke to The Spectator on Sunday morning “They went out for a swim and unfortunately he did not emerge after diving in,” he said. “We responded along with Hamilton Fire and EMS. Unfortunately, our efforts on the water and in the area just around the piers were met with negative results.”

Over his 11-year career, Emery played for the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, and Chicago Blackhawks. He won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013. He is perhaps best known amongst Capitals fans for his scrap with Braden Holtby when they played the Flyers during the 2013-14 season.

I just saw this not too long ago. I'm not a hockey guy...or sports guy in general but his death is tragic nonetheless.
