It's your fantasy world. You can make anything happen. It's your rules as long as you're consistent.

The thing is, if it's magic, by definition it's not following the rules of nature. It's like arguing "if the fairy godmother turned a pumpkin into a coach, where did the extra mass come from?" If you try to explain how it happens, you'll run into the roadblock that in reality, it CAN'T happen, and that's that.
So, if the book starts with the premise, "in this world, magic is real, cope with it," people who read should understand that if "Runes make babies come out, full term and healthy, in nine days rather than nine weeks," then that's what magic in this world does.

Opossums(North American Mammals, not possums which are marsupials) are 12-13 days, so I'd rate this as the minimum.
Opossums *are* marsupials. Even the North American varieties. Their young are born extremely undeveloped and then spend close to two months in the pouch before they can survive outside of mom.
I stand corrected.

This is the first time I can remember Google being wrong about something like that. I'd put it on my resume if I were you!
