glad they are safe. but, i'm hoping that this serves as a reminder to not just wander into a cave to explore. at least not without proper equipment.

And in the midst of celebration, someone is feeling a little hurt that his submarine was "not practical" for the rescue.

In better news, the Thai Navy SEALS and Australian doctor who were in the cave have also made it out safely. Presumably everyone is now safe.

Let's party!

I'd think so, but I can't come up with an explanation as to how he ended up going into the cave when he's really just a billionaire businessman. They kept everyone else not directly involved away, so why the exception?

They were probably perplexed by the well-intentioned, noisy, camera-hogging, american barging in the middle of everything.

Here and now
And mine too.
While my imagination went overdrive as I pictured the boys and their coach stranded on that rock, in the dark, for so many days, and then having to swim still in the dark in narrow corridors...

They've been given anxiolytics for the trip ( link ) so they prolly saw some gathering in the distance, mumbled one thing or another, then got escorted to the chopper.

And, smart of the Thai authorities to immediately whisk the children away to medical facilities, both for their health (who knows what they might have picked up in the way of cave bacteria) and to keep them well away from the Press, who are quite capable of doing their usual, "How do you feel?", "Who do you blame?", "Do you feel guilty?" with sickly, bewildered kids.

And I hope they let Musk hang around so they could get him on camera and push him into donating money for search and rescue services. It'll be fun to watch Hollywood try to make the movie of the Thai cave rescue with an all-white cast.

Yes. In the film adaptation, it will be an American team from the Midwest suburbs that goes exploring in the cave and gets trapped, to be rescued by American Navy SEALs played by all of the interchangeable actors named "Chris." The British will only be involved if Benedict Cumberbatch is available, and that makes for the quota of foreigners. The only way in which the team will remain Thai is if Angelina Jolie decides to produce and direct in a bid for an Oscar nomination, in which case orphans will play the footballers, and they'll be cast using questionable practices. Benedict Cumberbatch will still be the British diver.

ETA: Joking aside, it looks like they finished just in time. The main pump failed shortly after they got the kids out, forcing the rescuers to scramble.

Also, the father of Dr. Richard Harris, the Australian cave diver, passed away while his son was in the cave. Dr. Harris apparently only learned of this after he emerged.

And one of the SEALs will have a love interest who's trapped in the cave.

Man, this story's just writing itself!

We're joking about the film adaptation of the rescue story, but one production company has announced their intentions already. Pure Flix Entertainment, the company behind faith-based films such as "God's Not Dead" and "The Case for Christ," is working on an adaptation. In response, Director Jon Chu, in partnership with Ivanhoe Pictures, intends of film of his own, saying on Twitter, "I refuse to let Hollywood #whitewashout the Thai Cave rescue story! No way. Not on our watch. That won’t happen or we’ll give them hell..."

A dimension of pure BEES
I'm sure they can find a Chinese-American or Japanese-American actor to cast as a Thai (maybe as the guy on the surface who arrogantly rebuffs Elon Musk's offer of help). Thailand's in Asia, right?

Great... not only will everyone be whiter than white, but somehow Jesus will be in that cave with them.

I saw that a Christian film company was trying to get to make the film - didn't know the exact company or how Christian.

Given that the coach is a Buddhist and had previously been a monk for some years, and him teaching to boys how to meditate helped them to stay calm and conserve energy in the days before they were rescued... how can anyone in their right mind make it into a Christian film? If it's going to have a religious theme, then it ought to be Buddhist. Seriously.

Sucker bet that the diver who dies will be an asshole atheist.

Offering up an alternative plotline, he'll be an arsehole atheist who is saved by a heroic Christian who will heroically lose his life in the act, and the unbeliever will be converted by the sacrifice (bonus points for any unsubtle symbolism that can be shoehorned in).

If they did change the races, religions and nationalities of the people involved in this I would, as a white western Christian, find that deeply offensive.

I was so pleased to hear that all the boys out, and am in deep admiration of the bravery of everyone involved in the rescue.

To be fair, I imagine there are a lot of screenwriters with plot bunnies involving people being trapped in caves right now. As long as they don't pull the old "Yes, this is based on a true story. Well, close to the truth. Well, actually, the truth as it would have been if we'd been screenwriters for God..." trick.
