My birthday is coming up, and my grandfather is asking what I want. I'm writing a story set in London in the early 1900s and I'd like to ask him for some books I could use for research. Can anyone recommend any good social history books about the late Victorian/early Edwardian period? UK focused please and if you know of anything with a focus on Jewish or queer (especially lesbian) history that would be ideal! More general stuff would also be greatly appreciated.

Nothing to do with Jewish or queer or lesbian history, but To Marry an English Lord is a hoot and a half if you're interested in the posh end of Victorian/Edwardian social history and has a good bibliography to mine for first person accounts.
