Since you asked, hard to know if this one is a gimme or overly difficult...

My vote is overly difficult. It's not even a photograph but a painting, and you know how the most popular artists tended to idealize their subjects. The fact that it doesn't capture a background adds a layer of difficulty, too, as in no hints about the era.

But we all know I'm pretty poor at this game, so let's see how the others view it. Maybe somebody will get it in one shot.

If I told you that I really like female monarchs, would that help?

First name that comes to mind is Mata Hari. However, what little I know about paintings makes me think this painting was done way too early for it to be her.

I am aware I have a poor education in world history, but I don't believe I have heard or read of her. (Thanks, Arizona public schools!)

Here's one that may be easier--or may not, depending. This person's face is reasonably well known, but at a less tender age.

Oops, I forgot that part! LOL

Guess that means I gotta figure out how to post a pic, right?

Um... I've got one, but it might take a while...

Sorry, maybe too obscure? She's fascinating but not well-known.

Five years younger than E. Roosevelt. Literary, scientific, artistic (film) and political! The "mystery woman" on the team of a 1925 groundbreaking documentary. Involved in much intrigue. Founder of a feminist society.

Okay, feeling a little awkward... sorry to stumble in with such a nonstarter! It's Marguerite Harrison.

"Marguerite Elton Harrison (1879–1967) was a reporter, spy, film maker, and translator who was one of the four founding members of the Society of Woman Geographers." -Wikipedia entry

My ignorance raises its ugly head once again. I've never heard of her. Somebody please tell me I'm not the only one.

She sounds like a pretty amazing woman.

Sounds amazing, but I've also never heard of her.

I'm with you Maryn.

The power of the game is that we build our memory of these people when we don't know them. Then, we can learn and better ourselves. :D

Someone post one! I wanna play! :p

I've got one that might be fun. Let me see if it's sized right.

(Nope, it's huge. Gimme a minute...)

Hints are always so hard! You want to help but not give it away. Let me take a shot at a few hints.

Considered by some to be a true patriot, but never served in the military.
Considered by some to be the quintessential real man, he married three times and had multiple high-profile affairs.

Not ignorant - my bad - hardly anybody has heard of her! Which is pretty astounding. Any nonfiction writers out there, her life is ripe for a bio. : )

But thanks for trying everyone - DanielSTJ, yup, the discoveries are part of why I've been enjoying lurking!
