I published a short story in a magazine a couple of years ago, and a third party got in touch with me asking to adapt the short story to a radio play. (This isn't an audio version of the story; all the narration would be removed, and they'd be writing dialogue to substitute.) He'd like to be able to distribute the audio recording freely as long as it's for free, only distribute it for money with my consent, and have the rights to the audio play.

I've asked for a contract, and while he hasn't come up with one yet he's promised to try. But I'd love to be able to point him towards a template or something similar. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I did a search through the forum with the phrase "derivative work", but I didn't find anything that seemed applicable. I've also been Googling for sample contracts, but haven't been able to find anything; I'm not sure if I'm failing to come up with the right terms.

It's impossible to provide a standard contract for you to use in this situation, as there are so many variables. You need to pay a specialist IP lawyer to sort this out for you.

Oof. I admit that's not what I was hoping to hear, but I understand. Thank you.
