I heard back from the agent I mentioned in my last post, and I'm happy to say that she loved my book...but it's a short story collection, and she noted that it will be difficult to place and didn't offer to represent me. She asked if I have a novel in the works, and I told her that I have two--one of which is an unfinished first draft, one of which is complete but rough. I offered to send her pages, so, if she likes the novels too, is it possible that she'll take me on despite the fact that they're unfinished? Or do I have to wait until I have polished first drafts? I feel like the first sixty pages of both are good enough to show her, but I don't know if a novel-in-progress and a short story collection is enough to convince an agent. What do you guys think? Also, would it be worthwhile to query other agents with the collection, or are they all going to say the same thing?
