We were warned against it in Journalism classes, years ago, and I do it when I type. Always check the word public, as you may type it pubic. Word won't auto-correct this one.
I did Untied States when I was a kid. Still funny, unless published or submitted as an assignment!
I used to know a guy who, when messaging, had a consistent typo that he never noticed. He talked a lot about his "girlfiend."

Hasn't beaten:
"Put him on round the cock surveillance."
*sighs* Clock... write it out hundred times: Clock not...
Not my error, but I remember reading an article in a local paper where the writer paraphrased a comment by Queen Elizabeth, something about an "Annus horribilus." But she left off one of the 'N's.
Typo in my day job: I had to note a discrepancy in the county name in an address. Guess what letter I missed out of "county name"?
Also: "see prev note" rendered as "see perv note"
