I thought that spring must last forevermore,
For I was young and loved, and it was May.

- Vera Brittain, May Morning

Happy May, everyone! Camp is over and it's time to keep on doing the good work you started in April (or, if you didn't have a great April, time to start afresh)!

I'll start us off. Most of my goals are leftover from April, and there aren't many of them, since it's both my birthday and my 25th wedding anniversary this month. The husband and I will celebrate by traveling to Oregon mid-month to spend a week on the coast, relaxing and drinking good wine, and then we're headed to a family wedding - so not too much writing will be happening then.

Hoping all of you have a splendid month ahead! Let us know your goals so we can cheer you on!

[ ] Write 10k fresh new words for Camp on my WIP (Book 5 of my fantasy series; current count 13,519) - 0 out of 23,519
[ ] Review 1st round edits on Book 4
[ ] Read 3 books - 0 of 3
[ ] Lose 3 more pounds - 0 of 3
[ ] Get 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week:
Week 1 - 0 of 3
Week 2 - 0 of 3
Week 3 - 0 of 3
Week 4 - 0 of 3

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary in advance!

I technically ticked most my goals off in April, but I'm not sure I was happy with the overall month. So, once again, my new goals will basically look the same, but hopefully I will do better at them this time.

I do not know what substantial progress will be, but I figure I'll know if I reach the end of the month and am happy or not.

1. Read five books.
2. Continue transcription.
3. Edit/Finish one story.
4. Continue writing Haven.
5. Continue game planning.
6. Edit a substantial amount of Marietta. (Book 1)
7. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day (with one dedicated writing day per week).

Happy birthday and anniversary in advance, mrsmig! Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I don't have many goals at all for May. And I really have my doubts I'll get the second draft of Mahpee done. But I'm going to try. The short story is one I started a while ago, I just need to get it finished. I keep getting distracted from writing by yarn. LOL

[ ] second draft of Mahpee
[ ] short story

Ditto on the birthday and anniversary wishes, mrsmig. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Jaymz - with the cooler weather coming, I'm trying to ignore the unfinished pair of socks from last winter beside my bed. Would like to get them done before June, will see how I go.

I scraped my 30 hours in for Camp due to kids being at home on holidays and other disruptions to my writing time. Now we're back to regular programming I can catch up and get some writing done (fingers crossed).

[ ] Finish Re-write of Ch1 novel
[ ] Complete edit of Act 1 novel
[ ] Write four new scenes
[ ] Two Blog Posts
[ ] Read 2 books

Between the end of our fiscal year and championship season for rowing, writing time is going to be at a premium this May. Primary goal is to maintain the habit of consistently working on the MS. Keeping the quantifiable goals simple this month:

- Finish second draft of Act I in the WIP
- Read 1 book

Arikdiver - I've got a three-quarters-finished pair of socks from last winter. :) That's one of the projects I'm hoping to finish up over the next two weeks. I can crochet when it's still kind of warm, but I can't knit - my hands get too sweaty.

Great to see so many posting their May goals! bdwilson, I'll be interested in hearing your reactions to The Night Circus and American Gods when you're finished. I've read both: one of them leaped immediately into my Top 10 favorite books, and the other I was more "meh" about. I'll let you guess which is which. :greenie

Hope everyone's first week of May has been splendid! Mine was largely spent gardening and getting the yard in shape so I can go away for ten days' vacation with a clear conscience. The only thing that isn't going to get finished is my vegetable garden. I can't really plant anything until my husband and I erect the deer barrier, and it's been so cool this spring (up until the middle of this week, that is) that it felt too soon to deal with tomatoes, beans, cukes and peppers. I planted peas, radishes and lettuce in deck boxes where the deer can't get at them. At least the gardening counts for my exercise goals for the week.

I'm still working my way through MIGRAINE. I can't believe how slow this book reads, especially compared to Oliver Sacks' other books. I think it's because of all the medical terminology. I may put it aside and read something lighter, just to give myself a break.

I haven't made a lot of progress on the WIP, partially because I was fighting timeline issues. I despise outlining, but when I do one I usually start at the end of the story and work backward, as I almost always know how I want things to conclude. So while I spent a couple hours doing that reverse outline instead of writing yesterday.

I've been promised my first round of edits later today, and my editor tells me she had very few notes, so I'm hoping I can get that done quickly. Hoping, too, that my publisher is going to send me a cover design to look at soon.

[ ] Write 10k fresh new words for Camp on my WIP (Book 5 of my fantasy series; starting count 13,519) - 13,608 out of 23,519
[ ] Review 1st round edits on Book 4
[ ] Read 3 books - 0 of 3
[ ] Lose 3 more pounds - 0 of 3
[ ] Get 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week:
Week 1 - 3 of 3
Week 2 - 0 of 3
Week 3 - 0 of 3
Week 4 - 0 of 3

[ ] short story
[ ] work on outline for The Crystal Throne (previously called Elementals)
[ ] start SS:AMNG story

Ooooh, sunshine at last! It sure hasn't done anything for my writing. ;)

[ ] Draft 2 of Sculptures: write 30,000 words to get to 50,000 words => Behind target at 24,361 words.
[ ] Lose 1.5kg - 2kg max. => -70g -0.7kg (ugh, I can't math tonight!)
[ ] Draw in my nature journal and/or take photographs 4x => nature journal 0, photos 3
[ ] Bodyweight training: 2 sessions a week, 3 if possible
Week 30 Apr: bodyweight 3, bootcamp/kickboxing 1, running 1
Week 7 May: bodyweight 1
Week 14 May:
Week 18 May:

So far so good. I've done a lot of walking because hello, sunshine!!! I also had a walk at dawn with a group of birdwatchers (the walk started at 4AM or so, but I went out before sunrise to walk to the meeting point, as I don't drive). It was awesome! Seeing a herd of deer in the heath in the middle of the night is magical.

I still managed to do my bodyweight training later in the day (and it was a good session, even). I haven't written anything today yet and don't know if I will, because my brain is a tad annoyed that I woke up at 3AM. :Coffee:

I didn't get to do as much writing as I had hoped for in April, so I'm moving it to May. And with the other items either completed or half done, I will get to concentrate on my writing this month.

1) Finish 3 WIPs.
