Some years back, I came across a poem written from the POV of a dog. The dog is addressing its master, remembering what it's like to be at the beach. I could swear the final line is something like "o master come and (something something) walk along the beach/beside the sea."

I want to say it's an older poem, and not cutesy-poo at all. I had passed it on to one of my sisters, and she contacted me tonight wanting to see if I remembered the title or the author. Try though I might, I can't pull enough info out of my memory to even do a decent Google search for it.

Does this ring any bells with anyone? Thanks in advance for your help!

We love a happy ending. Is that Don Marquis, the Archie and Mehitabel guy? I have a copy around here somewhere.

Yes, the very same. And so do I. Years ago I did an adaptation of his work for a readers' theatre presentation. I've always loved his poems.

I nearly cried at how innocent and wonderful this poem was.

Thanks for the share!

It's a bit of a change of voice for Marquis, whose archy & mehitabel poems usually tend toward the sardonic. Although they're very much a product of their time and place (the U.S. in the late 1920s-30s), they hold up pretty well. The conceit is that they're written by a cockroach (archy) who isn't heavy enough to hold down the shift key on Marquis' typewriter, so he types in lower case with no punctuation. This is one of my favorites: archy interviews a pharoah

That's another fabulous one! I'm VERY impressed.

Looks like I'll probably order a book of his works or check the library and the net for an e-book.

I find the concept of archy engaging too. It's brilliant, to say the least!
