I have been dabbling in playwriting for awhile and heard a good way to get started on the stage is to enter a one-act or ten-minute play festival. If anyone here on AW has done this, could you lend me some insight on some good festivals, and/or any tips on one-acts for a first-timer?

Thank you!

What I found difficult is finding festivals that are not set up where the playwright needs to come with a full company in tow. I don't want to be the whole package. I just want to write the play. Quite often the guidelines specify that it needs to be the whole package.

I have managed to find a few 10-minute festivals that accept plays. I've had 11 of them produced now. The two one-acts I have had done were the result of a call for submissions. If you Google-fu, you will find 10-minute festivals easier than one-act. Or, that was the case with me at least. Just keep searching submission calls. I find that play submissions are extremely seasonal, too...
