Hello. I'm Karen. I've been writing for a couple of decades on various personal websites (been around the internet for 25 years or so), and I'm now beginning to venture into the world of paid content. I have written about topics from feminism and sex work to Middle Eastern politics and dozens of topics in between. For fun, I've got an anonymous joke Twitter account that does moderately well in engagement but is a bit too crass to connect to my professional writing. I'm a single mother to a 5-year-old girl, and I've got a full-time day job in the field of Social Security disability law (thrilling). I am looking forward to reading your submissions and helping to contribute to the community here.

Thank you for the welcome! At the moment, I'll write whatever someone wants to pay me for (within reason), but my strengths definitely lie in nonfiction. I love research, note writing, academia. Nerd city over here.

Welcome Karen. Ever try travel writing? Sounds like it might suit you as a way of getting paid for writing that combines flair and research, unlike pure academic writing which doesn't pay directly

I have never tried travel writing, but it sounds lovely, especially assignments that involve actual travel rather than reading about a locale. Academic writing does get tedious, and there's certainly not much room for humor.
