Hey there, nice to meet you.

I’m a Canadian living in Japan and teaching at a renowned private international school just outside of Tokyo.

I enjoy writing thrillers, mysteries, and sci-fi. My current WIP that I started in February is still a baby at 20k. As such, I won’t be needing reviews, query critiques or anything of that nature for quite some time.

As for beta reading, I read most genres. I’m not particularly interested in romance however, unless it has a bittersweet or tragic ending.

If you have questions about Japan or Japanese, let me know. I’m by no means an expert, but I have an avid interest in a lot of subjects. Feel free to ask and I’ll try to help you out.

See ya around.

Thanks for all of the advice. I’ll check that out. Good thing I didn’t post one of my large, high resolution shrine photos in my intro!

Welcome, Nazuna. What brought you from Canada to Japan?

Love and work. I was teaching ESL at the time, so I was already considering moving. I also met someone from New York on a Japanese language thread that we both frequented. I visited Japan in 2014, and moved there by 2016. Now we’re married and have three guinea pigs.

Ah, Japan! So cool. I've always wanted to go there but I lack the founds and I have no idea where to even begin when it comes to giving english classes there. It's always awesome to hear soemone managed to do that, :)

Also, welcome to AW and best of luck with your novel!

I’m actually writing a thriller right now, but I have a good old fashioned chaos-theory inspired story that I’d like to tell one day.

Hi Nazuna, best of luck with your novel. Welcome to AW.

Thanks!

I assure you, it’s more mundane than it sounds!

I spent nearly two weeks in Japan in 2014 with under $2000 CAD so it’s actually reasonable for the most part. Transit is the killer cost, but most everything else is affordable.

Teaching where I do is rather difficult to attain, but ALT jobs are all over the country and are increasing with the lead up to the 2020 olympics. It’s a pretty good time for people looking to teach in Japan.

Welcome! Your life sounds like a great well-spring to draw from. Good luck with you WIP.

Thanks for the welcome!

Wow, Japan! I've heard its a great place to visit but kinda tricky to live. This might be because the person I knew who lived there was both a model and an English teacher, so people often asked her how to say rather impolite things...

Have you found its challenging to be a foreigner there?

I suppose it could be tricky to live here, but a lot of that is going to come down to where you’re from, what you look like, what marketable skills you have, your Japanese language proficiency, and how easily you can adapt to the culture. I haven’t had many problems.

As for saying impolite things, a Japanese publisher put out a couple of books teaching people how to swear in English. It’s delightful.
