We now no longer camp as for a night, but have settled down on earth and forgotten heaven.

- Henry David Thoreau

This month is the first of two annual NaNoWriMo Camps - the second is in July - and a lot of us will have Camp goals to track. Even if you're not Camping, you're welcome to join in this thread, where we state our goals (writing and otherwise) for the month and track our progress while encouraging, commiserating with and cheering our fellow writers on! Everyone is welcome, so don't be shy - join in the fun!

I'm Camping myself this year, so that goal is the top of my list:

[ ] Write 20k fresh new words for Camp on my WIP (Book 5 of my fantasy series) - 0 of 20,000
[ ] Review edits on Book 4 as I receive them from publisher
[ ] Read 3 books - 0 of 3
[ ] Prep for 25th Anniversary trip to Oregon
[ ] Figure out anniversary gift for Hard To Shop For Husband
[ ] Lose 3 more pounds - 0 of 3
[ ] Get 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week:
Week 1 - 0 of 3
Week 2 - 0 of 3
Week 3 - 0 of 3
Week 4 - 0 of 3

So...what are YOUR goals for April 2018?

:hooray:

[ ] 50k on the first draft of my second CYOA, Camp is a good motivator.

I have other things driving me crazy to be written, but while I have the moment, why not see where the idea takes me? I have a love/hate relationship with comedy writing, more than SFF it's what I find comes natural for me. But ye Gods is it hard to find a home for.

Other than that, I plan on spending a lot of April playing Stardew Valley. Gamerz get it.

I finally finished knitting the blasted knitted blanket I'm making - just need to find the energy to sew the last bits to it and it'll be DONE. Phew!

Goals for April are a little less, I think. Primary focus will be getting the first draft of Mahpee done. It's my Camp project and a sequel to one of my sisyfus stories. I'm pretty excited I get to start it today! :)

[ ] complete first draft of Mahpee (Camp project) – 25K words
[ ] complete notes for Elementals
[ ] make dinner once a week 0/4
[ ] complete crocheted cardigan

Camp NaNo, Camp NaNo, Camp NaaaaaNoooooo!

[ ] 15k new words on unnamed WIP (Alex and the Dragonshifters???) for Camp
[ ] Declutter room at least a little
[ ] Listen to the TAZ: Amnesty mini-arc, since the second season's coming up

Hello, April! I'm not officially camping, but I guess I am unofficially since I really hope to focus on editing M. As much of it as I can.

Otherwise my goals look almost the same as March (and Feb and...) I guess it's a bit boring having the same things, but it seems to be working for me.

Most important thing at the moment is deciding what long form thing I'm writing next. I started a short yesterday that'll hopefully tide me over for a while, but it won't last the month. Editing is generally too hard on work days; I need writing focus of some sort.

1. Read five books.
2. Continue transcription.
3. Edit/Finish one story (the SS one) and two flash.
4. Decide and begin whatever long form I'm writing next.
5. Continue game planning.
6. Edit M. (Book 1)
7. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day (with one dedicated writing day per week).

It's going to be a busy month.

1) Write 100,000 for Camp (across multiple works, to finish them up)
2) Clean 1 hour a day for spring cleaning
3) Do 4 side projects for the business
4) Finish design book project

Read three new books.

I am camping, in a local cabin.

[ ] 30 hours editing (camp goal)
[ ] Read 2 books
[ ] Write 2 blog posts

I want to query my manuscript later this year, so my main focus writing-wise is to edit my manuscript to the best fo my ability and let it go. That last part is the hardest.

Good luck this month everyone.

Probably should get back in the groove of posting here since I'm doing Camp this month. Finished the first draft of my MS back in February, took all of March to spend time away from it, and am now kicking off revisions in April. My camp goal is straightforward. Hoping halfway through the month, I'll be feeling good about my pace and can bump it up to 50 hrs, but we'll see.

April Goals:
- Spend 40 hours revising the MS
- Finish 1 book

Best of luck to everyone this April!

I'm going to lurk, and possibly come back with goals, but I have to find my words first.

Not a bad week, all told. I made solid progress on the WIP, finished reading Barbara Hambly's GRAVEYARD DUST, and got two exercise sessions in. I'm experiencing the double whammy of plantar fasciitis in my right heel and issues with my left knee, so I'm going to have to curtail some of my usual walking exercise and substitute something else until I can sort out what's going on with the knee in particular.

Hope everyone else is moving ahead with their goals!

Small progress only for this update. Most of the week has been spent on game stuff, which needed to be done (I thought - turns out we didn't get to it but now I have lots prepped for next month's session), but at the same time, it's pretty bad I didn't really do anything else. A flash piece written, but needs lots of work, and a couple of 500 word days on another story.

Oh, wait, I did edit a flash piece! So not completely a game week :)

I have finished Nim's Island by Wendy Orr. Which, yes, is a children's book and not exactly hefty. But given I've been not-starting Artemis by Andy Weir for ages, read a bit, but just couldn't get into it, I'm happy to read children's books if they grab me more.

Have not touched M. Have not decided what I'm writing next. I have tried to think but failed. Hopefully this week on my writing day.

1. Read five books. 1/5
2. Continue transcription. Very, very little bit.
3. Edit/Finish one story (the SS one) and two flash. 1/3
4. Decide and begin whatever long form I'm writing next. Nope.
5. Continue game planning. Yes.
6. Edit M. (Book 1) Nope.
7. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day (with one dedicated writing day per week). So far.

I've thought about reading Artemis because I enjoyed The Martian, so I'm interested in why you can't get into it.

I had a similar situation with Guy Gavriel Kay's Tigana, which has a glorious prologue but a difficult Chapter One. After years of having the book in my to-read box, I finally told myself I would push through that problematic chapter and get the damn thing read, but by Chapter Four the name soup and backstories hadn't stopped, and I finally just said, "Okay, this is just not for me." I donated the book to my local Little Free Library and actually felt freed.

Finished some beta reading this week, always a pleasurable experience. But man there's been a lotta beta reading this year! Giving myself pretty much this weekend to chill, maybe worry about my own slow writing progress, then it's jumping in to two more novels. Man that's a lotta beta reading this year!

I've tried Tigana so many times! I don't know what it is about GGK, I really respect him as a writer, dig his research and the depth & detail of his settings. But it never quite meshes for me. At some point, I'ma gonna try Under Heaven, maybe that will finally stick.

I enjoyed The Fionavar Tapesty, but yeah, Tigana was just... :e2yawn: I think I've tried to read it three times now.

So far this month I haven't done too much other than work on my Camp project. I did complete the crocheted cardigan, but only because I worked on it in that quiet time before I got out of bed to start my day. Someone stole the garden hose and reel we had in the front yard, so that kind of threw a hiccup in the week. One hundred dollars later, we're keeping the new hose in the back, chained up. Hoses are expensive! (probably why some asshat stole ours)

I'm hoping to get at least a few notes down on Elementals this week - as well as keeping on with my Camp project.

[ ] complete first draft of Mahpee (Camp project) – 25K words (currently on 8,848)
[ ] complete notes for Elementals
[ ] make dinner once a week 1/4
[X] complete crocheted cardigan

I love The Martian. For me, Andy Weir's writing wasn't great, but he was a brilliant enough storyteller I didn't care. Artemis... I don't know? Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but since I was struggling, I looked up some reviews and that put me even less in the mood. It's a library book, and it's due back (checks) at the end of the week so I won't read it. Maybe another time.

I was afraid that would be the case. I really enjoyed The Martian, but because it was a great yarn, not because of Weir's writing. (I feel the same way about J.K. Rowling - love the Harry Potter stories, but the writing isn't anything that would send me back to re-read the books. In fact, I just donated my hardbound copies of the series to my local Little Free Library.)
