The Martian is so great. I love writers who are able to go into technical details without it sounding dry. The humor was solid too, but I would agree that his writing is pretty middle of the road. But that just proves people are more attracted to a great story rather than great writing. Great writing can only hold your attention for so long if the story is lacking.

I was going to skip my weekly update for lack of progress, but that's probably not a good habit to get into, so here we go!

[ ] Give away the give-away pile
[ ] Go through my books for ones I can give away or sell
[ ] Go through my clothes for stuff I can give away
[-] Finish reading Coyote Kings for the AW Reading Challenge
[-] Read A Fine Balance for book club
[ ] Pull together draft of short story for next Alphabet Anthology and finish
[-] Finish Camp Project (novella revision)
[X] Edit every day: Week 14
[ ] Edit every day: Week 15
[ ] Edit every day: Week 16
[ ] Edit every day: Week 17
[ ] Edit every day: Week 18 (April portion)

Progress report:

[ ] 1,471/15k new words on unnamed WIP (Alex and the Dragonshifters???) for Camp
[ ] Declutter room at least a little
[X] Listen to the TAZ: Amnesty mini-arc, since the second season's coming up

Haven't written in days. I may have to go back to my original idea of "just write some random stuff, who cares about it being part of a coherent whole, getting a consistent habit is more important" instead of forcing myself to write in One Specific Draft. Sigh. March went so well, I thought I could keep the momentum going.

We're halfway through the month!

Not a bad week for me, albeit a busy one. I finished another book: LOST BOYS OF HANNIBAL, the true story of three kids who disappeared into a cave in Hannibal, MO and never returned (potentially interesting topic, but a badly organized book in desperate need of a good editor). I got my three 30-minute exercise sessions in, sorted out the anniversary gift for the hubs, and made some words for my Camp project.

[ ] Write 20k fresh new words for Camp on my WIP (Book 5 of my fantasy series) - 8,776 of 20,000
[ ] Review edits on Book 4 as I receive them from publisher
[ ] Read 3 books - 2 of 3
[ ] Prep for 25th Anniversary trip to Oregon
[x] Figure out anniversary gift for Hard To Shop For Husband
[ ] Lose 3 more pounds - 0 of 3
[ ] Get 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week:
Week 1 - 2 of 3
Week 2 - 3 of 3
Week 3 - 0 of 3
Week 4 - 0 of 3

Some progress is better than none.

Update time. I've had some lacklustre days for goal seven, but I've scraped through. Despite this I'm happy with the last week. Only a little bit of game (in fact I still haven't finished the summary and the like for making the next event). Some days thrown away on transcribing.

But I've edited another flash piece. It might still need more work, but it's at least mostly done. And I've finally figured out my next long form thing. I don't know much of the plot yet, but I have a world, and I have some character arcs. It's still got plenty of time to fizzle since I've only written half a chapter, but I'm past the first fizzle point (one page) and I know what I want to happen next. Second potential fizzle point is generally at a couple of chapters.

I have also finally started editing M. I began by just skim reading the book since it's been a while, and it caught me up. I also saw a few things I could tweak and neaten along the way, which relieved me (it won't be a useless editing pass). Then I did the first chapter today (haven't typed up the edits yet, but they're done). I forget how slow I am at editing sometimes. This will take me a while.

So while I've only done starts more than anything, just getting those starts is good.

I finished Nim at Sea but haven't yet started whatever I'm reading next. Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire probably, but I've been a little under the weather so train home after work has been reserved for being a zombie.

1. Read five books. 2/5
2. Continue transcription.Bit more.
3. Edit/Finish one story (the SS one) and two flash. 1.5/3
4. Decide and begin whatever long form I'm writing next. Yes!
5. Continue game planning. Yes.
6. Edit M. (Book 1) A start!
7. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day (with one dedicated writing day per week). So far.

Making slow progress on my Camp project. Took time out this morning to make lemon meringue pie from scratch. I had an itch for lemon meringue and if I don't get it, I'll just eat everything in sight trying to satisfy the craving. First time making pastry, and first time making lemon meringue pie. The filling turned out lovely (there was a bit left over), we'll see how the pie tastes after dinner tonight. :)

Now it's back to the writing. I'd love to be at 15K before I go to bed tonight, but I think that might be just a tad ambitious.

[ ] complete first draft of Mahpee (Camp project) – 25K words (currently on 13,009)
[ ] complete notes for Elementals - started
[ ] make dinner once a week 2/4
[X] complete crocheted cardigan

Fell down some rabbit holes this week, especially this weekend, so not a whole lot of progress again.

I also don't think I'm going to finish both books (they're longer than I thought when I optimistically put them both on there).

It's going to be a busy month.

1) Write 100,000 for Camp (across multiple works, to finish them up)
2) Clean 1 hour a day for spring cleaning
3) Do 4 side projects for the business
4) Finish design book project

Something came up toward the start of the month, so I haven't had a chance to do much writing. I did get some of the other stuff started before I got sidelined though.

Revised goals:

1) Write 50,000 (finish 2 books and a proposal)
2) Spring cleaning 1/2 completed
3) Finish design book project 1/2 completed

Didn't get as much writing done this week as I'd hoped, but still plugging along on the Camp project. Started a new book (Oliver Sacks' MIGRAINE) and while I'm enjoying it, it's slow going. I got all my exercise sessions in this week, so yay for that.

Most of my activity has been of the yard-work variety. I was in NYC nearly all of last year, and gardening is not my husband's forte, so everything is weed-cluttered and overgrown. I'm stiff as hell from all the bending and stooping and squatting, but we got the sawgrass plants cut back (a HUGE job), cleared the thistles out of the veggie plot, assembled and filled the birdbath and fountain, and picked up most of the dead branches knocked out of the trees during recent windstorms. Today's big job will be pruning back the dwarf weeping cherry tree that's the centerpiece of our ornamental garden, something I usually do in the fall. It's going to kill me to cut off all those freshly leafed branches, but the thing is a mess and I can barely move through the garden without tripping over trailing branches. Once that's done and the garden generally tidied up, we'll have to get everything mulched and figure out how to keep the deer and squirrels out of the veggie patch this year. Good thing we have decent weather this weekend.

A little late to the thread, but I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo:

[ ] Write 50k words in April 43691/50000

Never too late! Nine days to go, and you're already pretty close to your goal!

Update for this week - I'll do a final update next Monday only if there's anything to change (aside from completing the Camp thing, cause I'm pretty sure that'll get done). I figure, for the rest of this week, I'll be able to get the Camp project done, and probably finish half the notes I need for the Elementals story.

[ ] complete first draft of Mahpee (Camp project) – 20K words (currently on 17,882)
[ ] complete notes for Elementals - started
[X] make dinner once a week 4/4 – calling this one done since I’m making dinner tonight
[X] complete crocheted cardigan

Not great on the update front. I missed a day on Saturday. I had a lot of stuff on, and I made the mistake of thinking I'd do some writing when I got home in the evening (rather than right then when I had some time). Naturally, I remembered all the way home - then got there, did some internets, and went to bed without a thought.

The first flash piece has already been rejected. The second flash piece my sister read and she is still confused. I've started editing the story but have only done a couple of pages. Only done one more chapter of M.

Still reading Down Among the Sticks and Bones. Enjoying it muchly (the style always takes me a bit to get into) so will finish that soon. I got to read lots today in my work breaks because I pulled out my laplet and discovered it had no charge. The power cord had been knocked out or something while I was charging it. So no writing for me today yet either >>

And I've hurt my foot.

At least Haven, the new long form bit, is going along pretty well?

1. Read five books. 2/5
2. Continue transcription. Bit more.
No :(

A little bit of progress this week!

I've hit my word count goal for camp, but my primary goal is completing the new draft, which means I still have more to go. Still looking doable, though. My big win this week this week was going through my books. I've cleared a book shelf, so now I just have to move them out of the house. Which, as can be seen with my give-away pile, might take me a while :tongue

[ ] Give away the give-away pile
[X] Go through my books for ones I can give away or sell
[-] Go through my clothes for stuff I can give away
[-] Finish reading Coyote Kings for the AW Reading Challenge
[-] Read A Fine Balance for book club
[ ] Pull together draft of short story for next Alphabet Anthology and finish
[\] Finish Camp Project (novella revision)
[X] Edit every day: Week 14
[X] Edit every day: Week 15
[X] Edit every day: Week 16
[ ] Edit every day: Week 17
[ ] Edit every day: Week 18 (April portion)

I'm pretty much resigned to A Fine Balance not happening. I might switch it out with our other book club choice this month, which I remember being much shorter. I'll take a look at that tonight.
