Is it acceptable and advisable to use a recent stage play, one that's had it's professional debut in English in the last couple of years, as a comp title for another genre? I reference this play in a memoir for which I am having the goldarndest time finding comp titles. Occurred to me to ask about using it.

The author of the play changes it for each locale where it's presented, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks for any input.

Blessings,

Comp titles are used to give agents and editors and idea of what sort of book you're selling. So it's difficult to use a play (or anything else which isn't a book) as it doesn't indicate what sort of sales are likely to happen for the book in question.

You don't need to include comp titles in your query. Some agents like them, others don't care, but if you write a query which is good enough without the comp titles you're good to go.
