Really more of an FYI thing. No one ever talks about stuff like housing on the rez. Not that many people have been to a rez. It's easy to talk about how awful things are in distant lands but this is happening right here to our own citizens.

Housing is a constant state of crisis on Canada's reserves. Population is booming on the reserves but housing cannot be delivered fast enough. Problems are exacerbated by the fact that houses must be built by "southern" standards but don't have a hardware store nearby to maintain those "southern" standard homes. Recently, there have been some engineering and architectural efforts to make housing suitable for northern life including having less things that are required from hardware stores. But INAC will insist on those southern standard homes.

Xelebes - yes, so many complicated factors (no handy supply store nearby either), and yes, they just cant' deliver housing fast enough! So people are living in fucking cardboard!!! Whole families!! The issue isn't "sexy" like so many that hit the headlines, but it's pretty devastating, a winter like this one (like 72" of snow in 3 weeks)

I keep thinking, as with so many issues, we have so many really really smart people, with so many amazing ideas. Why the FUCK can't we get on this??
But we are not.

Awful, heartbreaking, and infuriating. There is no excuse for people living in these conditions without real, tangible support from the government.
