Hello! I'm a person of many hobbies who, at least currently, hopes to one day earn a living as a fiction author. You know I'm serious about it because I've "written" my first book already, under multiple file names, some of which are variations on the phrase "final draft."

Science fiction and fantasy are my favorite genres, in both reading and writing. I have been interested in writing for most of my (relatively young) life, but have only recently managed to actually see one of my projects through to completion. The book I said I "finished" is currently out for review by beta readers, and is the first in a series of five YA fantasy novels that I plan to publish one day. This is not intended as self-promotion; I won't even mention the title here. I am also interested in honing my skills by writing short fiction, but I honestly don't know where to start.

Since I've been rather disappointed recently with the commitment level of my beta readers, I did a Google search for "writing forum," and found this place. I think being part of a community where I can consistently give and receive critique might be the next important step of my writing journey. Thanks for having me, and see you around the forums!

Welcome to AW! You certainly have the drive to succeed, and I hope you do - having more quality scifi and fantasy around is always good for readers :) Critiquing other people's writing is just as important as having eyes go over your own work if you want to improve, and it really will help to improve your writing.

Welcome to AW, congratulations on finishing your book. I too have been disappointed in with the commitment level of my beta readers, but I think that will change now that we've found this great community.

Welcome Klope! I understand what you mean about beta readers. I'm in the editing / revising stage of my manuscript as well, and all my beta readers seem to be too busy to help-- which is why I'm turning to my online community for help. :)

Hopefully you can find the critique you're looking for.
