I have a burgeoning grain of an idea, and I am trying to make it into a world. It is such a hard process, but hopefully a rewarding one. I've come here to find some much needed assistance, as I have never written anything but D&D campaigns (and the worlds and characters within).
I am uncertain how much help I can be to others as I am a novice writer, but I will do my utmost to help if I can. 'You know nothing Jon Snow!' is entirely applicable, so please bear with me while I bumble about. There is perhaps one way I may be of assistance. Although from Canada, I have lived in Japan for ten years now, so if you have any questions about the country or culture for a novel or out of interest, I am happy to be of service!
I enjoy fantasy novels, and I am currently trying to write a young adult fantasy novel. Fantasy 'fluff' as my grandfather calls it is my preference, but I have read a fairly large number of classic novels - except Moby Dick. Alas, I cannot get past the first 200 pages of that blasted novel without perishing of boredom. Honestly, Genesis's endless begats are of more interest somehow. (Apologies to any fans of the novel. I admire your fortitude!) I am currently trying to tackle War and Peace. It's tough going, but I'm hopeful I will finish it. Wish me luck!
My dearest wish is to become an author whose writing is immediately recognizable. If you were to say, pick up a nameless book of theirs that you had never read before, you could still know that it was written by them. Only a few writers have struck me in that way, Le Guin being the main one, but also Hemingway and Austin.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance and patience!
Kay
