A few weeks ago, the night before my most recent big deadline at my day job, I messaged one of my team members at around 9:15 PM (we were both working) to say, “That feeling when you find [unit of work of small but not trivial impact] at 9PM the night before final submit, and think, yeah, I can do that.”

He replied with that Kermit typing gif. And that is pretty much what the next 18 hours looked like, for both of us.

For some reason my best writing days come when I least expect them. I go to work for eleven hours and when I get home I cant sleep I just stay up until the next shift writing.
On Sundays even though I have the whole day off I only manage to write a few sentences.

I've spent months (years?) trying all the hacks to achieve kermit-level focus and have failed, miserably. Before I tried to 'improve productivity', I had lots of mad, feverish writing sessions. So...maybe there's a lesson there.
