This only applies to people using the self-hosted version of WordPress, WordPress.org
WordPress.org has announced that WordPress 4.2.3 inadvertently introduced a bug that breaks auto-updates in future versions.
WordPress has fixed it the bug in version 4.9.4.

If you self-host, here's what you need to do:
- Log on to your WordPress Dashboard
- Look in the bottom right corner; does it say 4.9.4?
You're fine. - If it displays an earlier version number, then you need to update manually to WordPress 4.9.4
- Go to your Dashboard
- Click Updates
- Click Update Now.
- When it's finished updating, look at the bottom right corner of your Dashboard, and make sure it says 4.9.4
